江戸時代中期に大流行した南蛮鍔。
江戸時代末期、幕末に肥後細川家のお抱え金工になった熊谷一派が、江戸四谷に住んでいたことから「江戸肥後」「四谷肥後」などとも呼ばれています。

鍔は、丸形の鍛えの良い鉄に、龍図が肉彫地透で施された江戸肥後の南蛮鍔です。

"The Nanban tsuba became extremely popular during the middle of the Edo period. By the late Edo period, during the Bakumatsu era,
the Kumagai School, which became the official metalworkers for the Higo Hosokawa clan,
lived in Yotsuya, Edo, hence they were also referred to as "Edo Higo" or "Yotsuya Higo.

The tsuba is made of well-forged iron in a circular shape,
with a dragon design rendered using the Nikubori Jisukashi technique, characteristic of the Edo Higo's Nanban tsuba.
